The different types of feathers

There are two main shapes of feathers: parabolic or shield-cut feathers.

Parabolic feathers offer less wind resistance due to the small amount of material and the general shape of the feather. This is ideal for target archers.

Shield-cut feathers provide a more stable and accurate arrow due to the greater amount of material and general shape of the feather than a parabolic feather but will be slower. The extra material at the back of the arrow, or the tip of the shield, allows for better rotation and faster correction of the arrow. This feather is recommended for bow hunters, who may encounter variable weather conditions.

It is possible to choose between long feathers or short feathers:

As a general rule, the longer the feather, the more stable it is. However, a long feather will be slower than a short feather.
