What do they have in common? All will be used in instinctive shooting, meaning without modern accessories - particularly aiming aids - as is the case with Olympic recurve bows or compound bows.

Besides being beautiful objects, traditional bows are also very accurate and efficient.

Your choice will obviously depend on your taste and budget, but that's not all: you'll also need to know what type of practice you're planning.

For example, for hunting, we recommend a one-piece recurve bow: it will be smaller in size than a longbow for example, but also faster due to the curvature of its limbs.

However, historical reenactment and medieval festival enthusiasts will prefer longbows, hybrid bows or horseback bows.

On traditional wooden bows, the draw weight increases in increments of 5 pounds (#).

For a first bow, it is recommended to choose between 20 and 30/35# for a woman, and between 35 and 45# for a man.

The draw weight is typically measured at a standard draw length of 28". If your draw length is longer, the actual draw weight will be higher; if it's shorter, it will be lower.

For shooting with a traditional bow, using arrows with natural feathers is essential. Unlike plastic vanes, which can disrupt the trajectory, natural feathers flatten when passing over the arrow rest or the archer's hand (in the absence of a window), thus ensuring the straightest possible arrow flight.
