The different types of archery targets

For archers, the target consists of two distinct elements:

  •  The support, often called shooting butt or target
  •  The target face, made of reinforced paper, namely several layers of paper glued together with a mesh of very fine threads.

The choice of a target must be made among different types.

The straw target

In the world of archery, straw targets are very widely used.
Made of compressed-glued straw, it offers excellent value for money.

Round, in the form of plates or cut into strips, they are still widely used by clubs, particularly for making shooting walls (in sports halls or outdoor fields).

The foam target

This type of target is also very popular. These targets are blocks made of special foam that resists shot impact. Although they are relatively similar, the quality varies from one model to another, from one brand to another.

They have the distinctive feature of being equipped with replaceable centers, which also makes them more economical.

Quite light and functional, they are now preferred over straw targets.

The bag-shaped target, cubes or blocks

Bag-shaped targets are non-woven targets filled with materials that will stop the arrow without any damage.

The same applies to cubes or blocks which will most often be made of very compact foam.

All these targets have the advantage of being compact and practical to transport, however, they remain smaller and require a minimum level of skill.

The 3D target

The 3D target is ideal for bow hunting practice in real conditions. It often represents animals (wild boar, deer, pheasant...) and is also used in course shooting for sports. Light, weather-resistant and realistic, it is suitable for both beginners and experienced archers.
