Matériels de serving
Serving material, also known as serving thread, is the additional thread you will apply to strategic locations on the string to prevent premature wear and protect it.
Available in different sizes, black or colored, it adds style to your string while preserving it.

How to choose your serving thread?
Various criteria should be considered beyond the color touch you want for your bow!
Based on its size
The essential criterion for a serving thread spool is: the thread diameter!
From the thickest at 0.032 to the finest at 0.009, your choice will depend on the area that your serving thread needs to cover and protect.
Do you have a recurve bow and want to make a center serving? 0.021 will be perfect.
For the end loops, prefer 0.019 and even below (down to 0.014).
Servings for a compound bow? 0.014 or even below will allow for a fine and strong attachment at the same time.
Based on its durability
For example, thick and robust serving threads are chosen for crossbows because the string is always in contact with the rail, and even if the latter is lubricated, friction wears out the string.
Who are the largest manufacturers of string materials?
Today, the market leader is the American company BCY.
They offer a wide variety of serving threads in cotton, nylon, polyester, multi-component materials that are suitable for different weapons and different string materials.
To help you choose the right serving material based on the string material used, here's a summary table from the BCY brand:
| string material | recommended center serving | recommended end serving | standard number of strands for a compound bow |
| 452 Xtra | Powergrip / 62XS / Halo | 3D, 2X, Halo or Powergrip in 0.014 | 22/24 |
