How to choose your string spool?

The choice of a string spool will depend on several criteria such as the type of bow or the size you want. Today, the market leader is the American brand BCY.

Spool sizes

There are 3 different spool sizes available on the market:

- 1 lb: these are the largest, generally used by clubs or professionals

- 1/4 lb: medium-sized, these are economical spools, very practical especially if you don't want to change string color every year

- 1/8 lb: these are the smallest spools

It's difficult to say how many strings can be made per spool: it all depends on the length and number of strands, but what's certain is that you'll save money in the medium term by making your own strings, not to mention the pleasure of having a string perfectly suited to your taste!

Bow type

You won't use the same material for a wooden beginner bow as for a state-of-the-art compound bow! It is therefore important to use the right material to get the best possible performance, but also to avoid damaging your equipment.

To help you in your choice, here is a small summary table with very common materials:

452 X Compound bows Very stable strand, perfectly adapted to high draw weights to guarantee bow settings
