A flatbow is a flat-shaped bow whose limbs are not naturally recurved and slightly rectangular in shape. This type of bow was used by Native American tribes such as the Hupa, Karok and Wampanoag, but also by prehistoric Europeans and some Inuit tribes. Flatbows have wide limbs that narrow at the riser to make it easier to hold. This design differs from a longbow which has rounded or D-shaped limbs.
