What are the criteria that determine the accuracy of a crossbow? 

The power of your crossbow

The power of a crossbow corresponds to the force required to cock it, the power stored in the limbs during cocking. It is expressed in pounds (lbs).

High power can allow for a flatter shot and especially more accuracy at long distance. In general, the initial velocity will also be higher thanks to the power.

Even though major brands of traditional crossbows like Excalibur offer very powerful crossbows, in general, compound crossbows offer the highest power levels.

The speed of your crossbow

Speed is indicated in FPS (Feet Per Second). It is often related to power, but not only: the limbs (materials, profiles...), the cams... are all elements of your crossbow that can influence its speed.

The faster your bolt exits, the flatter and more accurate your shot will be. Air penetration will also be better. 

The trigger

A smooth, fluid trigger without jerking at the moment of the shot generally allows for a more accurate shot and much better grouping on target.

The overall balance of the crossbow

A well-balanced crossbow (weight distribution of the bow,...), ergonomics adapted to your morphology (stock adjusted to your build) allows for a more stable grip and hold and therefore better accuracy.

The sighting system

It is an essential accessory in the accuracy of your crossbow to exploit its full potential. Red dot, multi-point, with correction... different options for multiple levels of accuracy.

Maintenance of consumables

The string, the cables can play a role in the accuracy of your crossbow: if these consumables are worn, the energy transfer can be altered.

The bolts used (or arrows)

Too worn, bent, damaged... all these details will have a direct impact on your accuracy on target. Taking care to maintain your bolts is also a safety issue because a defective bolt can be dangerous when shooting.
